Bilmuri Broke Out
The sound I never knew I needed
I didn't find Bilmuri until American Motor Sports broke through the noise. But oh man... The second I heard it, I was done for. It was all over. This was the sound I never knew I needed. It's weird. It's different. It's sassy. It's fun. But the lyrics will still hit you like a ton of bricks.
Clean vocals, but still some passionate screamy parts. The way they bend genres and still maintain a signature sound is mind-boggling to me.I've been going back and listening to every album since discovering them, and I must say... They are all amazing.
I honestly expected to find a few songs or albums that didn't click with me. Instead, I just kept finding more favorites. At one point, I was listening with my headphones on while grocery shopping when an older gentleman stopped me and asked who I was listening to.
"Bilmuri," I said.
"Oh! Bill Murray has a band now?"
I had to explain that no... it wasn't that Bill Murray.
Then he asked what song was playing.
"Shyt Fyst."
He looked at me as though he witnessed an innocent child use a cuss. I think it caught him off guard.
I got to know Johnny Franck. Well... as much as you can through social media and interviews. He's so freaking funny. Humor plus talent? Yes please. The silliness just made me love him and the music even more. He may not be conventionally "hot," but he's a 10 to me. I even added him to my celebrity freebie list. Mocha said he'd hand me over and watch with Reese. I still laugh every time I think about that.
I know Johnny is super humble, but the way this man spits out banger after banger after banger... I really think Mr. Franck might be a musical genius or something. I don't know how someone bends this many genres together and somehow still makes every song sound unmistakably like Bilmuri. Maybe that's what impresses me the most.
So far, I only have American Motor Sports and Kinda Hard on vinyl, but I'm hoping to expand the collection. They're ‘kinda hard’ to find.
